Companies face the challenge of innovating their business models. This leads to great uncertainty:business model innovations have to break the dominant industry logic while malinvestmentsneed to be avoided. A solution to this dilemma is linking established methods of patternbasedbusiness model development with approaches for experimental testing from Entrepreneurship.If business models are designed on the basis of established patterns and validated atan early stage, uncertainties can be systematically reduced. In this context, the needs of establishedcompanies must be addressed: In contrast to start-ups, they face the challenge of integratingthe business model into their existing organizations.Thus, the goal of this work is a method for the introduction of business model innovations inestablished companies. The method must support companies in designing, validating and integratingbusiness model innovations. For an existing business idea, pattern-based business modelconcepts are created and a promising one is selected. The validation is carried out in an iterativeprocess: assumptions are derived, converted into hypotheses and experiments are carried outfor verification. Based on the findings, the business model is adapted. Subsequently, an approachis derived to embed the business model into the organization. Measures to implementthe business model that have been converted into a roadmap are the result of this method. |
